In Islam we believe that Allah guides by His wisdom and His mercy, not by a third being called ‘holy spirit’ who lives inside us. Our faith believes that the guidance is from Allah which comes from the Quran (the last, final and true word of God the all mighty) and the practice and postures of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh).
When we compare the beliefs of different religions, we find that a lot of confusion comes when people try to relate the divine guidance of God to a specific group or sect. And We know in Islam that true guidance is in submission to One God and none else, no intermediary. As Allah, the Most High says in the Qur’an: “And whoever holds firmly to Allah, then indeed he has been guided to a straight path” (3:101).
They do not want to worship spirit beings with the aim of purification and transformation but the worship of the outer form is meant to shut out doubt in the sincere worship of Allah, to remember Allah and doggedly to obey Him. What that means is we start to cleanse our hearts with prayer, with giving charity, with fasting and seeking knowledge. The loveliness of Islam is and that there is a straight line communication channel between Creator and created individuals without any intermediaries and then their tampering.
Thus it is that the Truth is sought through an open mind, and an open heart, seeking with the guidance of Allah as to whom He wishes to be on the straight path. Ours is to learn, to think, and to bring to religious questions the same good sense and honesty with which we approach all other questions, and never to lose sight of the fact that by God, the most gracious, the most wise, is where we are really best guided.
