創造の本質を振り返ると、物理学からの例として振り子を考えることができます。科学は、振り子を動かすときに、完全に中央で揺れることは決してない—想像できる最小の分数さえもずれが生じると教えてくれます。この微妙な欠陥は、何らかのものや誰かが最初にその動きを始めた必要があることを示唆しています。
イスラム的観点から見ると、この観察はアッラーを「第一の動因（アル＝ムブディ）」として捉える私たちの理解と美しく一致します。創造物のすべてには始まりがあります。それはアッラーが意図して存在させたからです。クルアーンはこう語っています。「確かに、アッラーこそが天と地とその間にあるものを六日で創造された方だ」（32:4）。
振り子が永遠に揺れ続けることができるかどうかという議論は、すべての創造物が一時的であるという重要な教訓を私たちに与えます。金属は腐食し、星も最終的には寿命を迎え、すべてのものには定められた期限があります。これはアッラー以外の全てが有限で一時的であるというイスラム原則を反映しています。
この科学的観察は、私たち自身の一時的な存在を思い出しながら、アッラーの完璧な創造への畏敬の念を高めるべきです。宇宙に設けられた精密なバランスに対する謙虚さと感謝、そしてすべてが創造主へ帰るという究極的現実についての思索を促します。私たちが観察する創造物の完璧さは、無限の知恵でそれらを設計された創造者の完璧さを直接示しています。
In reflecting on the nature of creation, we can consider the example of a pendulum from physics. Science tells us that if a pendulum is set in motion, it will never swing exactly down the middle – even by the smallest imaginable fraction. This subtle imperfection suggests that something or someone had to initiate its movement in the first place.
From an Islamic perspective, this observation beautifully aligns with our understanding of Allah as the Prime Mover – Al-Mubdi, the Originator. Everything in creation has a beginning because Allah willed it into existence. The Quran reminds us: “Indeed, Allah is the one who created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them in six days” (32:4).
The discussion about whether the pendulum could swing forever teaches us an important lesson about the temporary nature of all created things. Nothing in this physical world lasts eternally – metals corrode, stars eventually expire, and all things have an appointed term. This reflects the Islamic principle that everything except Allah is finite and temporary.
This scientific observation should increase our awe of Allah’s perfect creation while reminding us of our own temporary existence. It encourages humility, gratitude for the precise balance Allah has established in the universe, and reflection on the ultimate reality that everything returns to its Creator. The perfection we observe in creation points directly to the perfection of the Creator who designed it all with infinite wisdom.
